Meaning: mouth
This kanji looks like an open mouth. In fact, it IS used a mouth in a lot of emoticons! Isn't that shocking?! (」°ロ°)」

     Radical:
     口 mouth (This radical on its own is also a kanji.)



Meaning: exam
Once I was so nervous about an exam, I hid in a tree with a lid on my head until my father came to get me.

     Radicals:
     木 tree
     父 father
     亠 This radical in itself doesn't have a meaning, but it's referred to as the "kettle lid radical." Can you see why?



Meaning: empty
I went down into the cave searching for hand-crafted antique kettle lids, but it was empty.

     Radicals:
     穴 cave
     儿 legs
     宀 (kettle lid radical)
     工 craft



Meaning: soil, earth
This kanji looks like a little plant popping up out of the soil!

Radical:
土 soil, earth (This radical on its own is also a kanji.)



Meaning: tree
This one's easy-peasy. It looks just like a tree with branches and long roots!

     Radical:
     木 tree (This radical on its own is also a kanji.)
