Kanji Cruncher: Grade 1, Lesson 6

Hello, friends! Happy Wednesday! Are you ready for today's lesson? I think it's going to be a fun one.

Meaning: circle / round / yen
You've seen the cats Maru and Hana on YouTube, right? ...You haven't?! Look, after this lesson, I say you deserve a study break. Take five minutes. Go watch some kitties.  Anyway, Maru's name means "round" and this kanji looks like the boxes he loves to play in.

Meaning: child
Since we're talking about videos and things, you've watched Phineas and Ferb, haven't you? Doesn't the top part of this kanji look like Phineas' pointy nose? He's definitely a child. Say, isn't he a little young to be learning Japanese? No. No, he's not.

Meaning: eye
Imagine this kanji itself is an eye with an upper eyelid and a lower one too. That's... a really geometric eye, actually. Aren't you glad your eyes aren't shaped like that?

Meaning: eight
This one's a little trickier. Maybe you can imagine climbing up the slide and then sliding back down eight times. What kind of story can you make up?

Meaning: six
The Japanese word for six is "ろく." Incidentally, that's the same name as that super-cool media streaming box. Imagine you're so excited about your brand-new Roku box, you're holding it on a platter high above your head! ...wait, that doesn't exactly remind you of the meaning, though, does it?

...You didn't think I was joking about taking a break, did you? Here. Enjoy the kitties.

またね!
-Kitty
