Kanji Cruncher: JLPT N5 Kanji - Lesson 7/60

Welcome back for another kanji lesson, and let's say hello to the month of October! Even though sometimes our studies might make us feel like we're going in circles, we're making great progress.

Today's Kanji

Let's go! 行きましょう!

Kanji

Meaning: Circle, round, yen

Fun fact: today's kanji is also the name of a famous internet cat who lives in Japan! In English, we spell it Maru. In Japanese, his owner spells it まる. His name means "round..." can you see why?

I've heard it said that this kanji looks like two round coins in a bank teller's window... but personally, I think it looks like the boxes Maru the cat likes to play in!

Examples
On Reading Word:
100円 (ひゃくえん)
100 Japanese Yen

Example Sentence:
100円は安いですね。
(ひゃくえん は やすい ですね。)
100 Yen is cheap, isn't it?

Kun Reading Word:
円い (まるい)
Circular

Example Sentence
まるさんは円いですよ!
(まるさん は まるい です よ!)
Maru is round!

Hey, you did a fantastic job today! You've been working hard. Here, enjoy a Maru video.

またね!
